1. Preparing and Securing Your Own Hair
Before moving directly to attaching the accessory, it is crucial to prepare the base. Hair extensions hold much more securely on clean, well-brushed, and dry hair.
If you are using a ponytail hair extension, gather your own hair at the desired height (high, medium, or low ponytail) and secure it with a sturdy hair tie. If you have fine hair and need extra grip, you can gently backcomb the roots or apply a small amount of hairspray where the hairpiece will be attached—this will prevent the extension from slipping.
2. Opening the Clips and Fasteners

If you are using clip-in extensions consisting of individual tracks, begin the attachment process from the lower part of the nape: part your hair horizontally, temporarily section off the top portion, place the open clip exactly against the roots of the lower section, and snap it shut with gentle pressure (you will hear a distinct click).
3. Fitting Ribbons and Built-In Combs
If you are using a ponytail hair extension (either wrap-around or ribbon-style), you will find a small, built-in comb on its inner side.
Carefully slide this comb into the top section of your ponytail elastic (between your own hair and the hair tie). After doing so, wrap the base of the hair extension around your ponytail and tie the ribbons tightly to secure it in place.
4. Blending and Achieving a Natural Look
To make the hair extension look entirely organic and seamless, the attachment points must be properly concealed.
For a ponytail extension, separate a thin strand of hair from the bottom of the accessory, wrap it tightly around the base of the ponytail, and secure the end underneath with a bobby pin. If you are using clip-ins, let down the top section of your hair after installation and brush through gently so that your natural strands and the hairpiece blend perfectly together.
5. Checking Stability and Final Touches
Once the attachment process is complete, gently shake your head from side to side to ensure the hairpiece sits securely, does not pull, and causes no discomfort.
